Tournament Rules
- General
- Games will be two 20 minute periods run time. If the goal differential is 3 goals or less the last 2 minutes will be stop time.
- 2 minute no puck warm-up
- All penalties will result in a penalty shot
- No body checking
- All coaches have to select a Hustle Award for their own team after each game. No player should win the award more than once during the tournament.
- There shall be no overtime periods to break tie games in Round Robin.
- In the Final rounds, if the game is tied at the end of regulation, then a 5 minute straight time sudden death overtime period shall be played. If at the end of the overtime period the score is still tied, the teams shall go to a shoot-out as prescribed in the cross-over shoot-out format.
- All players shall wear full protective hockey gear while on the ice and benches
- All rosters must be filled out on the game sheets 15 minutes prior to the start of the game. No player names can be added to the game sheet once the game starts.
- Players are not allowed to score more than 3 goals in a game.
- Parents are not permitted to be on the bench during games unless they are on the list of parent volunteers who have been approved by and have submitted a clear Criminal Record Check to the IAHA Executive.
- No Timeouts to be called by coaches during games.
- Conduct and Suspensions
- All Hockey Canada rules and regulations will be in effect during the tournament.
- A match penalty shall be assessed to any player who is identified by the Referee as the instigator or aggressor in a fight. The opposing player may then be assessed a match penalty if he/she fights back or continues the altercation, a minor penalty for roughing, or no penalty at all, depending on the circumstances. If two players throw the first punch simultaneously, then both players will receive match penalties. A match penalty means that the player or players will be ineligible to compete in the balance of the tournament.
- Incidents of blatant profanity or any blatant displays that are considered to make a “travesty of the game†by players or coaches shall result in a Gross Misconduct penalty and will result in the player or coach being ineligible to compete in the balance of the tournament, including access to player benches and dressing rooms. Any and all incidents involving Game Misconducts, Gross Misconducts and Match penalties are to be reported to the IAHA Discipline Chair for further action where warranted or required.
- A zero tolerance rule for verbal abuse against or by a player, coach, official (On-ice or tournament director) and parent/spectator is in effect. For players; a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (zero tolerance) will be given whenever a player:
- i) Openly disputes or argues about any decision by an official (On-ice or tournament directors)
- ii) Uses obscene or vulgar language in a boisterous manner to anyone at any time, even if it is not directed at any particular person.
iii) Visually demonstrates any sign of dissatisfaction with any decision by an official. Any and all incidents involving unsportsmanlike conduct of players will be reported to the IAHA Discipline Chair and/or the RCMP (if necessary) for further action where warranted or required. For coaches; a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct (zero tolerance) will be given whenever a coach: i) Openly disputes or argues about any decision by an official (On-ice or tournament directors) ii) Uses obscene or vulgar language in a boisterous manner to anyone at any time, even if it is not directed at any particular person.
- iv) Visually demonstrates any sign of dissatisfaction with any decision by an official including standing on the boards or standing in the bench doorway with the intent of inciting the officials, players or spectators. Any and all incidents involving unsportsmanlike conduct of coaches will be reported to the IAHA Discipline Chair and/or the RCMP (if necessary) for further action where warranted or required.
For parents/spectators; an automatic ejection from the Arena for the remainder of the tournament (zero tolerance) will be implemented whenever a parent/spectator:
- Openly disputes or argues about any decision by an official, (On-ice or
tournament directors), or coach
- Uses obscene or vulgar language in a boisterous manner to anyone at any time, even if it is not directed at any particular person.
- Visually demonstrates any sign of dissatisfaction with any decision by an official (On ice or tournament directors), coach or another parent/spectator with the intent of inciting them.
- Any and all incidents involving unsportsmanlike conduct of parents/spectators will be reported to the IAHA Discipline Chair and/or the RCMP (if necessary) for further action where warranted or required.
4) Tie Breaking Procedure
- Points are awarded as follows:
Win = 2 points
Tie = 1 point
Loss = 0 points
- If teams have the same number of points at the ends of the Round Robin, standings shall be determined as follows:
- The team(s) with more wins shall be placed ahead of the team(s) with fewer wins;
- If teams have the same number of wins, the result of the Round Robin game between the tied teams will determine the standing, with the team that won the Round Robin game being placed higher.
- If teams are still tied after (a) and (b), then the team with the best goal for/against average would place higher. Team average is computed by dividing the sum of goals for by the sum of goals for plus the goals against. Example: (10/10+5= 0.66)
- The final tie breaker will be determined by the team that scored the first goal in the tournament in the least elapsed playing time.
6) Game Dynamics
- Initiation -Minor and Major Mites will have 3 ice times.
- Novice will be split into 4 teams and play half-ice games. The same goalie can play in all games, or they can rotate, depending on the interest from the players to play that position.
- Atom/Peewee, Bantam/Midget play 5 on 5. There must be two (2) older age and three (3) younger age players on the ice at all times from each team.
- Peewee/ Bantam Midget/Junior will play 4 on 4. There must be two (2) older age and two (2) younger age players on the ice at all times from each team.
